A severe thunderstorm watch was issued by Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) for Foothills County Saturday near Cayley. ECCC posted the thunderstorm watch just before 3:30 p.m., advising that "Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts and large hail," it said. “Severe thunderstorms are possible this afternoon.” There was no severe thunderstorm watch in effect for the Calgary area late Saturday afternoon, but the forecast calls for a 30 per cent chance of showers and the risk of a thunderstorm. A heat warning for the Calgary area remains in effect, with hot temperatures around 30 degrees forecast to continue through next Friday.
