The Calgary Fire Department says a neighbour was responsible for alerting a Riverbend resident that their home was on fire on Wednesday. Firefighters were called to the 100 block of Riverview Close S.E. just before 9 a.m. They arrived to find flames eating away at the front attached garage of a two-storey home and thick plumes of smoke. “Crews stretched a number of hose lines and started knocking back the fire,” said Alex Kwan, public information officer with the CFD. “As additional crews arrived on scene, we secured a hydrant supply for additional water sources, and crews proceeded with an attack on the fire inside the garage.” Kwan says there was limited damage inside the home. The homeowner was inside when the fire started but got out of the house safely. No injuries were reported and the fire was extinguished before spreading to any other structures. The cause of the fire isn’t yet known.
