A man breached the Canada National Parks Act when he plucked a family out of a lineup in Lake Louise and rented them a canoe that wasn’t his. The canoe capsized after the family, visiting from Indiana, took it onto the water. Members of the family almost drowned. David Daviau, 39, pleaded guilty to the Canada National Parks Act violation in a Canmore courtroom on Wednesday. Other charges were withdrawn. The incident happened a little over a year ago, in July 2025. Court heard Daviau himself borrowed the canoe before he offered to rent it to the American family. Wednesday, Daviau was ordered to pay a $3,000 fine and banned from Banff National Park for a year.
