In the aftermath of a deadly crash involving a pair of city buses, Calgary police are hoping to speak with several passengers. In a release issued Monday, police said they believe several people from the buses left the scene in the aftermath. Investigation into the incident, which resulted in three people dying and 16 people being injured, remains ongoing. “It is imperative that we talk to everyone who may have information that could progress our investigation,” Staff Sgt. Andy Woodward said. “We believe that several passengers likely left the scene following the collision without knowing that investigators would like to hear their witness accounts.” Around 1:15 p.m. on Oct. 15, a northbound bus collided with a truck headed in the same direction in the intersection at Saddletown Circle N.E. and 80 Avenue N.E. The truck was knocked into an adjacent lane, where it sideswiped an SUV, then hit a cube truck. The bus, meanwhile, drove into the back of a sedan, knocking it through the intersection, where it hit a truck. The city bus then hit the back of a second bus, causing natural gas tanks in the second bus to catch fire as it rolled forward and hit another sedan. The fire then detonated into an explosion that caused a fire inside the bus, killing three passengers. Passengers who haven’t yet spoken with police are asked to call 403-428-4000 or 403-266-1234. Anyone else who might have information about the crash is asked to call 403-266-1234. Monday, police again encouraged witnesses of the incident to contact the Victim Assistance Support Team (VAST) if they require help. VAST can be reached by calling 403-428-8398 or toll-free at 1-888-327-7828.
