Calgary police say two teens have been charged in connection with a random robbery outside a senior’s residence in southeast Calgary. Investigators say a 75-year-old woman was walking from her vehicle to her apartment in the 6200 block of 17 Avenue S.E. on the evening of July 11 when she was approached by two unknown males. Police say the suspects attempted to steal her purse. The woman fought back and screamed for help, prompting a neighbour to intervene. The suspects fled before officers arrived. The victim was taken to hospital with minor injuries. Following an investigation, police say they identified and charged two youths. The accused, aged 14 and 16, cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act. “This incident will have a lasting impact on the victim beyond her physical injuries,” said Staff Sgt. Keith Shufelt of the Calgary Police Service District 4 general investigations unit. “The random nature of this offence and the ages of those charged are particularly concerning.”
