More snow to start the week with highs below seasonal

Snow is over for now in Calgary. Jodi Hughes has a look at the five-day forecast from the Sky Watch Weather Centre.

As expected, another moisture-laden system tracked over the Rockies at the end of the weekend bringing snow into southern Alberta for the Monday morning commute.

Roads both in and outside of Calgary were snow-covered and slushy and surfaces like sidewalks, parking lots, intersections, on and off-ramps, bridge decks and side streets were all slippery.

As of 7 a.m., 511 Alberta was reporting mostly snow and ice-covered routes around central and southern Alberta.

Snow is expected to fall for the first part of the day as this system continues to track east – eventually feeding into the formation of a Colorado low which has prompted widespread special weather statements across central Canada.

Strong north wind will create additional challenges with blowing snow early in the day while producing wind chill values in the low minus teens at times.

A cold air mass has settled over most of the west and will supress temperatures for most of this week. Monday will be the coldest day with a high 10 degrees below seasonal.

Local highs will sit above freezing starting Tuesday – but still remain below seasonal.

More snow is expected to start on Wednesday and continue Thursday, with total accumulations in Calgary of 5 to 8 centimetres expected.
