Meika Jordan’s mother testifies during murder trial in young girl's death

Meika Jordan's mother and stepfather, Kyla and Brian Woodhouse, address the media following Kyla's testimony in the first degree murder trial in connection to Meika's death

Kyla Woodhouse took the stand on Tuesday to provide testimony in the trial of Spencer Jordan and Marie Magoon, the co-accused in the murder of Kyla’s six year old daughter Meika Jordan.

Woodhouse remain composed while sharing details about her final encounter with Meika in 2011.

Meika had been staying with her father and his partner Marie Magoon in the days prior to her death.

Police attended Woodhouse’s home and notified her of Meika’s hospitalization.

The moment Woodhouse laid eyes on her daughter she knew the injuries were not the result of an accident. Meika was unconscious and in a medically induced coma.

A doctor told Woodhouse ‘Your daughter is very, very broken and we aren’t sure we can fix her’.

Woodhouse says she asked Spencer Jordan, Meika’s father, what had happened and was told ‘It was just an accident’.

Meika succumbed to her injuries in hospital.

Kyla Woodhouse and Spencer Jordan had been in a relationship for six years and the pair had two children together.

When the couple separated, a custody battle ensued. Woodhouse and Jordan were scheduled to meet in court in an attempt to reach a custody agreement the week of Meika’s death.

Woodhouse had been prohibited from attending the trial proceedings on Monday which included the release of a recording of a phone call Marie Magoon had made to Healthlink during which Magoon sought medical advice for treating a burn Meika had suffered.

Following the conclusion of her testimony, Woodhouse is permitted to witness the remainder of the trial.

Woodhouse says she's exhausted but is glad she will no longer be excluded from the proceedings.

"I feel like there's been a big weight lifted off my shoulder," said Woodhouse. "It's been a long couple of years."

The first degree murder trial, which is scheduled to last six weeks, will resume on Wednesday
