Man charged in connection with hate-motivated stabbing

A Calgary man faces a charge of assault with a weapon after allegedly uttering racial slurs at a neighbour and stabbing him in the face.

Police say the incident happened around 9:30 p.m. on May 22, outside a home in the 1800 block of Woodview Drive S.W.

The neighbour, who is in his 40s, suffered minor injuries.

Emilio Francesco Pedicino, 41, was arrested and charged in connection with the incident and is next scheduled to appear in court July 3.

In a release issued Wednesday, police said hate-motivated violence “has no place in our city.”

“No one should be targeted or made to feel unsafe because of who they are,” said Sgt. Chelsea Francois.

“We are committed to thoroughly investigating these incidents and ensuring that those responsible are held accountable.”
