Slowing down to 30 km/h in school zones starting Tuesday should be nothing new to drivers, Lethbridge police say. That’s because harmonized playground zones in the southern Alberta city are in effect all year anyway. But Monday saw the Lethbridge force issuing a reminder to local motorists to consider kids’ safety. “Drivers can expect to see an increased police presence and enforcement activity,” police said in a release. Police say they’ll watch for: Motorists are encouraged to watch out for children near schools, around buses and elsewhere. Students are encouraged to cross roads at proper areas, such as crosswalks, and to look first and proceed with caution even then. Cyclists are encouraged to wear helmets and use reflectors, and to dismount where they’re supposed to.
