Alberta Sheriffs have closed a problem property in Lethbridge they say was linked to “persistent drug activity.” The Safer Communities and Neighbourhoods unit (SCAN) closed the home, located at 1226 13 Ave. North, for 90 days starting Tuesday. The property will be boarded up and fenced off, and all the locks will be changed. No one is allowed to enter the home until the closure period ends on Oct. 5. A community safety order for the home will remain in effect for an additional two years, until Oct. 5, 2028. Sheriffs say during their investigation, which began in March 2025, they observed short-term visits to the property that were “consistent with drug trafficking activity.” Then, in May 2025, Lethbridge police executed a search warrant of the property and seized drugs and drug paraphernalia. Four people were arrested. Alberta Sheriffs say despite issuing a warning letter to the property owner, SCAN continued to “receive and substantiate” complaints regarding drug activity. “This investigation began because community members spoke up about ongoing concerns,” said Insp. Brent Pickard in a news release. “Those reports, combined with SCAN’s investigative work, allowed us to obtain a closure order and put an end to the illegal activity occurring at this property. “We encourage Albertans to continue reporting suspicious activity so we can work with our policing partners to keep communities safe.”
