Investigation underway after pedestrian struck by vehicle in Bridgeland following theft of bag

A pedestrian was rushed to hospital after being hit by a truck Friday afternoon.

It happened in Bridgeland around noon. Police said a man stole a bag from a victim who sitting on a park bench near McDougall Road and 9 Street N.E., and when he tried to run away, he ran into the northbound lanes of 9 Ave. where he was hit by a passing truck and trailer.

The man was transported to hospital in life-threatening condition.

The driver of the truck remained on scene.

The city posted on social media just before 4 p.m. that the area has been cleared.

Police say there’s no evidence that alcohol, drugs or excessive speed on the part of the driver were factors in the collision.

An EMS spokesperson confirmed they transported one adult in serious and potentially life-threatening condition to hospital.
