The City of Medicine Hat says an independent review is underway following an incident at Echo Dale Regional Park that left a child dead. The review is being conducted by the Alberta and Northwest Territories branch of the Lifesaving Society. It comes after an 11-year-old boy was reported missing on the afternoon of June 15 during a school field trip at the park. First responders were called and located the body of the child at the bottom of the lake about an hour later. The investigation will focus on understanding the circumstances surrounding the incident and identifying ways to improve safety protocols. It will include a review of documentation, a site inspection and interviews with select personnel as required. A final report of the investigation is expected within 60 days.
