A 30-year-old man faces 14 criminal charges in connection with a firearms complaint made to Strathmore RCMP. On August 2, just before 3 a.m., RCMP officers responded to the 300 block of Lakeside Boulevard for reports of a firearm being fired. Arriving Strathmore RCMP officers were able to determine that a man had been kicked out of a club after causing a disturbance inside and the same guy returned with what witnesses described as a sawed-off shotgun and threatened bar patrons who were standing outside. A shot was discharged into the ground and the man fled. Officers searched the area for a couple of hours and eventually discovered the suspect. A firearm officers believe was used earlier was also discovered in a nearby park where it was located by a police dog. The suspect was remanded into custody and charged with 14 offences, including seven firearms charges, four for failure to comply with release conditions, mischief, resist arrest, and uttering threats. The suspect remains in custody. He was scheduled to appear in court on Friday. “It is fortunate nobody was injured in this encounter. Incidents such as this are both rare and unwelcome in our community,” said Strathmore RCMP Staff Sgt. Mark Wielgosz, in a media release. “I am thankful for our members quick response and assistance from the public to quickly identify the individual in this case.”
