Police say speed was a likely factor in a fatal motorcycle crash in northwest Calgary on Sunday that left a 20-year-old man dead. The single-vehicle crash occurred around 2:50 p.m. on Crowchild Trail N.W. at the Sarcee Trail overpass. Police said it is believed a motorcyclist was travelling eastbound on Crowchild Trail in the left lane when they lost control, crossed the two right lanes and exited the roadway. The motorcycle continued eastbound, and the rider was dislodged before striking the overpass and suffering fatal injuries. The man was declared dead at the scene. The motorcycle came to a rest on the east side of Sarcee Trail. While “excessive speed” is believed to be a factor in the crash, police have ruled out alcohol or drugs.
