An extreme cold warning that was issued for Calgary earlier this weekend continued Sunday morning. While the wind chill Sunday was - 25, extremely cold temperatures were expected to continue throughout the day. The forecast said there was a 30 per cent chance of flurries for Calgary, with fog patches in outlying areas throughout the morning. Wind is forecast to be around 15 km/h, with a wind chill around -29. Sunday’s high is forecast to be -18 C with the low around - 26 -- but Environment and Climate Change Canada is predicting the temperature will hit five degrees by Thursday, and 15 degrees next Saturday. EMS Public Education Officer Stuart Brideaux said it’s still possible to get the kids out to play despite the bitter cold, but the trick is to make sure they’re prepared. “Certainly it is still the Family Day weekend,” Brideaux said. “Children may want to be out and about and playing, and as far as that (goes), that’s fine as well, too. “They can be outside for appropriate amounts of time,” he added. “Do take the opportunity, though, to make sure that when they are bundled up, that you check the most vulnerable parts of the body frequently. “That’s the tips of the toes, tips of the fingers, nose, earlobe, high points on the cheek, as they are most susceptible to frostbite,” he added, “so actually, physically check fingers and toes and and children for cold skin if they are applying and do bring them in to warm up for appropriate periods of time.” With files from CTV’s Tyler Barrow
