Mounties arrested three drivers, all believed to be impaired, and are reminding others to plan ahead as the festive season approaches. Chestermere RCMP stopped the drivers during a traffic enforcement blitz in the city east of Calgary on Thursday night. No details about the drivers have been released, but officials say all were given immediate roadside driver’s licence suspensions and other penalties under Alberta law. “With the festival season approaching, Chestermere RCMP is reminding residents to plan ahead for safe transportation when attending celebrations and social events. Alcohol and drugs can impair judgment and reaction time, putting drivers, passengers, and other road users at risk,” RCMP said in a Friday news release. Police are advising residents to arrange a designated driver, rideshare or other transportation if they know they will be attending an event where alcohol is involved and never to get behind the wheel after consuming alcohol or drugs. While out on the road, officials encourage drivers to report all impaired drivers as long as it is safe to do so.
