Cavalry FC won the inaugural CPL shield in 2023. They’ll have a chance to raise it again at ATCO Field this Sunday if they can beat Vancouver FC. Bradley Kamden was there for the team’s first title and he says he’d love to add another shield to the trophy case. “We’re very happy and excited for the opportunity,” Kamden said. “We’re playing at home in front of our fans and we have the best fans in the league. I think we’ve made this place a Fortress.” But despite the stakes, Kamden says it’s “just another game” for the team. “Not much changes, but obviously we’re going to do everything we can to get that shield at home.” First for Tobias Home games have been Cavalry’s best friend this season as the team has gone undefeated at ATCO Field. Tobias Warschewski joined Cavalry in 2024 and has yet to lift the shield. He says he wants it bad. “This trophy you show yourself and you show as a team that over the course of the season you’re the best,” he said. “I feel like this is the hardest to do. Everybody can catch fire in the playoffs, it’s like one-off games and we’ve been good at these. But for me, lifting the shield would be special for sure.” Tough opponent In their way stands Vancouver FC, which is 20 points behind Cavalry in the standings. Head Coach Tommy Wheeldon Jr. says they’re not a team to be taken lightly. “It’s an old foe in Martin Nash (former Cavalry Assistant Coach) and he’ll be well organized,” Wheeldon Jr. said. “They’re playing for something. They’re trying to qualify for playoffs for the first time in their history and they’ve done a fantastic job.” “He knows this place well. He knows me well and he knows the club well. I think it will make for our first final of the year and hopefully it gets us prepped for what we want to accomplish.” Kickoff for Sunday’s game is 2 p.m. at ATCO Field.
