A group of Calgary students will be joining in a provincewide protest of Alberta’s transgender legislation with a walkout planned for Friday morning. Organizers of the demonstration, which begins at 10:30 a.m., say they are protesting the United Conservative Party government’s Bills 26, 27 and 29. All three of those laws target the rights of transgender youth. Although rally organizers are encouraging students across the province to participate by demonstrating on their school’s property, Calgary high school students will make their way to Education Minister Demetrios Nicolaides’ constituency office in the southwest for a peaceful protest. That rally is scheduled to begin at about noon.
