Calgary police investigate fatal crash on Barlow Trail N.E.

A driver has died after a crash on Barlow Trail N.E. Mason DePatie has the latest.

A man in his 20s died in a single-vehicle crash on Barlow Trail N.E. Thursday morning.

Police were called to the scene, near Seventh Avenue N.E., at approximately 3:46 a.m.

They say a 2025 Kia K4 was northbound on Barlow Trail when it crashed into the traffic median.

The impact was so severe, the vehicle’s front axle was found 15 metres away.

The driver, who was the only occupant of the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police believe speed was a factor in the crash. They are still investigating whether the driver was impaired by alcohol or drugs.

Barlow Trail was closed in both directions between Fourth Avenue and 16 Avenue N.E. for several hours for the police investigation.

It has since been reopened.

This is Calgary’s second fatal crash of 2026.
