Calgary police are cracking down on speeders and illegal car meets as warmer weather arrives. Police are reminding all drivers to slow down after three serious motorcycle crashes in the past two weeks. “Speed and the driving habits of those motorcyclists certainly have a factor involved in those collisions,” said Insp. Robbie Patterson with the Calgary Police traffic section. “So, I want to remind people when they’re out there on their motorcycles that they are riding safely, riding within the speed (limit and) riding unimpaired.” So far this year, there have been 10 fatal crashes on Calgary roads. There have also been five deadly pedestrian collisions across the city. “That unfortunately puts us in an unpleasant position of being ahead of the curve from last year, which was a record for fatal collisions,” Patterson said. In 2025, there were 38 fatal crashes on Calgary roads. Police are also stepping up enforcement at illegal car meets. Over the past two weekends, officers have issued 157 tickets related to illegal car meets—including stunting and speeding tickets. Patterson said a 19-year-old driver was caught leaving a car meet doing 137 km/h in a 50 km/h zone, while a 20-year-old driver was found reaching speeds of 126 km/h. Both were issued mandatory court summons.
