A woman is in hospital with serious injuries after being struck by a vehicle in southeast Calgary Wednesday night, one of several pedestrian-involved crashes reported across the city. Emergency crews were called to the intersection of Seton Drive S.E. and Main Street S.E. at about 8:45 p.m. Police say the woman was hit by a vehicle and transported to hospital in serious condition. The driver remained at the scene. Traffic in the area was affected for several hours as members of the Calgary Police Service traffic section investigated. Few details have been released about what led up to the crash, and the investigation remains ongoing. ‘A really loud thud’ Nicole Mullett, who lives nearby, says she crosses this intersection at least four times each day on her way to work, adding that she’s already put in multiple complaints to the city over drivers speeding. “So, we were sitting there watching TV last night and I heard somebody lay on their horn, then I heard a really loud thud, which is terrible,” she said. “I looked out the window and there was a woman like in the middle of the road and there’s just vehicles everywhere.” Mullet said she has experienced several close calls in the intersection and says the city needs to take action. “I mean, it probably could be lit a little better too, I know when you’re coming down this way, you can’t really see the lines, so I’m not sure if a lot of people know that this is a crosswalk,” she said. “I’ve been yelled at in this crosswalk, I’ve been sworn at. I’ve been very vigilant, which everybody should be. I make sure people see me and that people are slowing down, but I’ve been in the middle of the road and people are flying past me sometimes - that’s not unusual.” Multiple collisions reported The Seton incident was one of several crashes involving pedestrians reported in Calgary in a 24 hour period. According to city traffic information, collisions were also reported on northbound Macleod Trail near 12 Avenue S.E. and in the northwest at Valiant Drive and Shaganappi Trail on Wednesday evening. It is not clear how many people were injured in those incidents. A fourth incident, this time on Thursday morning, occurred at First Street and 144 Avenue N.W. Police said a pedestrian suffered non-life-threatening injuries when they were hit by a vehicle at 7:44 a.m. They were taken to hospital for treatment. The driver in that incident remained at the scene, police said. The cluster of crashes comes as police continue to raise concerns about pedestrian safety and a rise in serious collisions on Calgary roads. Ongoing safety concerns Calgary police say 38 people were killed in traffic incidents last year, including 15 pedestrians — a significant increase compared to previous years. So far in 2026, there have been more than 5,164 reported traffic collisions in the city. Eight people have died, including three pedestrians. In response to the trend, police and the City of Calgary launched the “Drive to Zero” campaign in September 2025, with a goal of eliminating traffic-related deaths and serious injuries. The campaign includes public awareness efforts aimed at drivers, pedestrians and other road users, along with enforcement and infrastructure improvements. Officials say road safety is a shared responsibility. Pedestrians are urged to remain alert, avoid distractions and make eye contact with drivers before crossing the street, particularly in low-light conditions. Drivers, meanwhile, are reminded to slow down, watch for people at intersections and always yield to pedestrians at marked and unmarked crosswalks. Police have not said whether charges are being considered in Thursday night’s crash in Seton.
