Brooks RCMP investigate sudden death of toddler

RCMP provide an update on the death of a toddler in Brooks on Tuesday, August 13, 2013.

Police in Brooks are investigating the death of an 18-month-old child at an unregistered day home.

Officers were called to a home on the west side of the community at about 3:35 p.m. on Monday.

When emergency crews arrived they found an unresponsive child and say the girl was not breathing.

They tried to revive the little girl but were unsuccessful.

Police say the home is an unregistered day home that cares for several young children.

They say the family and day home workers are shocked and understandably upset.

"It's a very tragic event obviously, the loss of a child. They're dealing with it as best as possible," said RCMP Sgt. Raimo Loo.

RCMP say so far there is nothing to indicate foul play in the little girl's death.

Brooks RCMP and the Calgary Medical Examiner's office are looking into the death and say the day home operator is cooperating in the investigation.
