Frontline Alberta RCMP officers began trading their grey uniform shirts for new navy blue ones this month. The change is part of a national plan to modernize the RCMP uniform. During the switch, officers may wear either colour, and both remain official. The Alberta RCMP said residents who are unsure about an officer can ask to see identification or call 310-RCMP to confirm an officer is at their location. The rollout started in Prince Edward Island in October 2025 and is expected to reach every province over 18 months. RCMP Commissioner Mike Duheme said the shirts are the first update in three decades. “For the first time in 30 years, RCMP officers will be stepping out in their communities with a new uniform shirt that fits with today’s modern times,” Duheme said. The RCMP said the new colour could cause confusion, especially after recent cases of people posing as police officers. In February, Three Hills RCMP charged an Elnora man with impersonating a peace officer.
