AHS orders closure of pizzeria in southwest Calgary due to unsanitary conditions

AHL ordered the closure of Famoso Pizza on 4th Street SW due to unsanitary conditions.

Alberta Health Services ordered the closure of a Calgary pizza restaurant last week due to unsanitary conditions.

Famoso Neopolitan Pizzeria at 105-2303 Fourth St S.W. was ordered closed on Aug. 20 due to several violations, including mouse droppings, fruit flies in the bar area, soiled cleaning cloths, an inoperable urinal and other violations, including temperatures that were too warm in storage areas.

A “significant amount of mouse droppings were observed throughout the facility, including, but not limited to: in the pizza area, on work benches, on top of clean plates, on shelving units, throughout the walk-in cooler, along most baseboards, underneath kitchen equipment, underneath the dish pit, on top of the handwash station located in the dish pit, in the laundry room, in the mop room, and inside cupboards throughout the facility," AHS wrote on its website notice of closure.

AHS posted the notice on Monday.

AHS ordered the restaurant to do extensive cleaning and pest management before it is allowed to reopen.

CTV News has reached out to Famoso, which has other locations across Western Canada and in Ontario, for comment.

The Fourth Street location has been removed from the company website.
