A 64-year-old Cardston man has been charged in connection with a collision that took place Wednesday in Lethbridge. Around 2:16 p.m. yesterday, police responded to a report of an injury caused by a vehicle collision along Highway 3. Police believe that a man in a Chevrolet Uplander was driving westbound on Highway 3 when he ran a red at the 30 Street North intersection. The Uplander struck a Ford Focus driving through a green light to make a turn. Police say a 26-year-old woman driving the Ford wasn’t injured. Two passengers in the Uplander were injured -- a 52-year-old woman and a 70-year-old woman -- and were transported to hospital. A 32-year-old man, seven-year-old girl and nine-year-old boy who were all passengers in the Uplander, were treated at the scene. Police say further investigation suggested that the driver showed signs of impairment, didn’t have a driver’s license and the vehicle was uninsured. After taking a breathalyzer the man was issued an IRS Caution and criminally charged. He was charged with dangerous operation causing bodily harm. He was also issued violation tickets for driving an uninsured vehicle, operating a vehicle without a subsisting license, failing to stop at a red light, careless driving, transporting liquor in a vehicle within easy access of an occupant. The Uplander was seized by police. The man was released from custody with the condition that he not be behind the steering wheel of any vehicle without being properly licensed and insured and not to be behind the wheel of any motor vehicle without the registered owner present. He is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 9.
