2 types of pistachios sold at Calgary store recalled for salmonella contamination

Health Canada has issued a food safety warning for a possible salmonella contamination in two pistachio products sold at a northeast Calgary store.

The agency says two types of roasted pistachios sold at Dizin Inc., located at 3141 Fifth Ave. N.E. have been recalled.

The products are roasted salted pistachios and roasted pistachios with saffron lime, which are both sold at the store in bulk.

The contamination was confirmed by test results conducted by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.

They should not be consumed, served, used, sold or distributed. All recalled products should be thrown out or returned to the location where they were purchased.

“Food contaminated with salmonella may not look or smell spoiled but can still make you sick,” Health Canada said in its advisory.

“Young children, pregnant women, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems may contract serious and sometimes deadly infections. Healthy people may experience short-term symptoms such as fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps and diarrhea. Long-term complications may include severe arthritis.”

Any customers who purchased these products and believe they may have become sick are advised to contact their doctor.
