TORONTO - Justin Bieber is going to have a better seat for this year's MTV Video Music Awards.

The 16-year-old pop sensation has been announced as a performer for the Sept. 12 awards bash.

He'll join a growing Canadian contingent onstage for the event.

Two-time nominee Drake will also perform, while Toronto DJ Deadmau5 will spin live throughout the show.

Kanye West will also perform, a year after his headline-grabbing run-in with Taylor Swift.

Lady Gaga leads with 13 nominations.

Bieber -- from Stratford, Ont. -- tweeted the news just as MTV made the announcement on their website.

"Last year i went and no one knew who i was and this year gonna PERFORM!!!" he wrote. "Wild!!"

The MTV VMAs will air on MuchMusic.
