Wye Marsh open house highlights unique animal habitats

Wye Marsh holds open house

Wye Marsh celebrated a the new year with an open house on Sunday inviting the public to their marsh and celebrating the winter season.

Guests were able to walk the grounds on snowshoes or skis while partaking in various activities including pictures with birds of prey, trivia challenges, and visiting the trumpeter swans.

Wye Marsh also introduced their family passport program to encourage families to visit.

Eric Walter is the executive director of Wye Marsh and said its important for the public to visit and see what the marsh has to offer.

“For people to come here and experience the marsh and see how you can make nature part of your day and your day to day, that’s really important because it gets the families involved and to make sure it’s here for generations to come,” said Walter.

He added that its important for the younger generation to grow up in areas like the Marsh.

“We live in such a beautiful area here, there’s so much nature, so much wildlife,” said Walter. “If people can’t come out and experience it and appreciate it, then they’re not going to grow up wanting to enjoy it and wanted to save it.”

With something for everyone to enjoy.

“We have people over on our cross-country ski trails, we have people snowshoeing, we have people seeing the trumpeter swans, which you can only see this time of year,” said Walter. “So the Wye Marsh in the winter time is amazing and people don’t always know it so for them to come here and enjoy it in the winter and see everything we have to offer in the winter is absolutely amazing.”
