Up to 30 cm of snow possible for some areas as winter storm moves through region

Here’s a look at our 5-day forecast for the week of Jan. 15.

Snow continues to fall across much of central and southern Ontario Thursday morning, with hazardous travel conditions expected to persist throughout the day.

Environment Canada has issued yellow snowfall warnings for areas including Barrie, Orillia, Newmarket, Grey County, Dufferin County, and Caledon.

Forecasts call for five to 10 centimetres of additional snow in Simcoe County, with nearly 30 centimetres possible in the Caledon area.

If you are stepping outside, be prepared for very cold wind chills in the morning during ongoing snowfall. “There may be a significant impact on rush hour traffic,” stated the national weather agency on Thursday.

Environment Canada reminds motorists to be prepared for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions. Snow is expected to continue through the morning and afternoon before tapering off in the evening.

Drivers and commuters are advised to allow for extra travel time, slow down, and use caution on untreated roads.
