Two men lose cars, licences after being nailed for impaired driving charges

Provincial police say impaired driving remains one of the leading causes of death and serious injury on OPP‑patrolled highways in the Kawartha Lakes District.

Shortly after noon on Sunday, a two-car collision at Glenarm Road and Simcoe Street sent several people to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police charged a 46-year-old of Mississauga man with:

• Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs
• Failure or refusal to comply with demand
• Disobey stop sign - fail to stop
• Careless driving
• Drive vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available

He was given a seven‑day vehicle impoundment, a 90‑day driver’s licence suspension, and a future court date.

The next day around 4 p.m., police were notified by the Automatic Licence Plate Reader (ALPR) to stop a driver on Colborne Street in Fenelon Falls.

A 65-year-old Fenelon Falls man was charged with:

• Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
• Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor
• Fail to surrender insurance card

He was also given a seven‑day vehicle impoundment, a 90‑day driver’s licence suspension and a future court date.
