Troubadour Festival opening acts announced, ready to set the stage for headliners

Sam Polley and the Old Tomorrows, Stuck on Planet Earth and Zeus will all be setting the stage to make way for the headliners at the Troubadour Festival Summer

The ones setting the stage and the tone for those sweet summer nights of live music are getting ready to ramp up the crowd.

The opening acts for the headliners at the Troubadour Summer Concert Series taking place in downtown Barrie across four Saturdays throughout the summer have been announced.

Sam Polley & The Old Tomorrows, Stuck on Planet Earth and Zeus will be bringing the heat to Barrie’s waterfront, offering a little bit of something unique for every music lover.

Sat., June 6 – Sam Polly & The Old Tomorrows, opening for The Road Hammers

The Toronto-based group blend genres, playing ‘50s and ‘60s rockabilly with a mix of Motown swing and country twang. The band is made up of Tally Ferraro on bass, Gianni Ferraro on drums, Fraser Melvin on electric guitar and Sam Polley on acoustic guitar and vocals.

Sat., July 25 – Stuck on Planet Earth, opening for The Watchmen

An alternative rock band from Vaughan known for moody grooves and raw energy, the trio has a ‘90s rock sound with a soulful modern edge. The group has performed with bands like Weezer, Finger Eleven, I Mother Earth and Big Wreck.

Sat., Aug. 15 – Zeus, opening for Bahamas

Zeus is an indie rock band that’s built a loyal following and toured worldwide, but it all started in Barrie where Carlin Nicholson and Mike O’Brien, two of the band members, connected as childhood friends. They also played in bands with Afie Jurvanen of Bahamas, a seemingly fitting band for Zeus to open for. The band is known for their harmonies and vintage sound.

“Adding these incredible supporting artists strengthens the full concert experience from start to finish,” said Steve Ricalis, Chair of the Downtown Barrie BIA. “Troubadour Festival continues to showcase the depth of Canadian music talent while creating unforgettable nights in the heart of our downtown.”

More exciting announcements are yet to come with the final headliner and supporting opener for Sept. 12 still a surprise.

“Each announcement builds on the momentum we’ve seen from the community and across the province,” said Chas Hay, Programming Partner at Hey Bear Productions. “This year’s lineup — from local openers to national headliners — reflects the kind of festival experience people can expect in Downtown Barrie.”
