Thief foiled by good parking job

Waking up to a broken window in your SUV is better than waking up to no SUV at all.

That’s what one Jewel House Lane resident found around 7 a.m. Wednesday morning.

It seems that someone had attempted to steal their Jeep SUV overnight and failed.

Mostly because of the homeowners other car that was parked near the SUV.

“It would appear that the theft was unsuccessful as there was a second car in the driveway that was parked very close to the SUV, and it was this strategic positioning of that second car, that prevented the theft,” said Peter Leon, spokesperson for the Barrie Police Service.

A closer examination of the Jeep showed wires inside the grill had been cut, and interior panels were also removed.

“The SUV in question will require some repair, but in the end, it will not become a statistic associated with this ongoing issue,” said Leon.

Police conducted a canvass of the neighbourhood and have received video that may assist with the ongoing investigation.
