A 15-year-old charged following an alleged assault with a drywall saw Monday evening at Lampman Lane Park in Barrie has been released from custody. The teen was granted bail to a loved one under strict conditions including house arrest and a pledge of $1,000. The accused, whose identity is protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, is one of two boys charged with assault when Barrie police said the 15 and 14-year-olds got into an argument with a 16 and 12-year-old, they recognized from school, at the Letitia Heights park. Police said the accused attacked the 36-year-old father of the boys by punching him repeatedly after he intervened. Police said the 15-year-old, while wearing a black balaclava, pulled out a drywall saw, chased the 16-year-old, and pushed him to the ground. Police arrived shortly after the accused fled and said a sheath believed to be from the weapon was recovered along with the balaclava. Officers said the drywall saw was not found. The 15-year-old is also accused of assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and wearing a disguise with intent. He faces earlier charges that remain before the court and returns to a youth case management court in July. His co-accused is scheduled to appear in bail court later this week.
