Spike belt deployed to capture fleeing man

Police deployed a spike belt to stop a suspect speeding on the highway. SUBMITTED ONTARIO PROVINCIAL POLICE.

A wanted man was busted after fleeing from police, twice.

Provincial police were holding patrols in Georgian Bluffs Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. when they saw a man wanted on an outstanding warrant.

Police say when they tried to arrest the man, he fled on foot and then stole an unattended motor vehicle.

The car was located a short time later, and police deployed a spike belt, which successfully disabled the vehicle.

A 31-year-old Georgian Bluffs man was arrested and charged with

• Flight from peace officer
• Obstruct Peace Officer
• Dangerous operation
• Theft of motor vehicle
• Fail to comply with probation order
• Driving while under suspension

The accused was held for a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound Friday.
