Ontario’s police watchdog has determined that no criminal charges will be filed after an arrest in Innisfil left a man with a fractured ankle. According to the Special Investigations Unit (SIU), South Simcoe Police Service officers were called to an Innisfil home on the evening of Sept. 17, 2025, after receiving a report of an alleged assault involving a man and his partner. When officers arrived, the SIU noted that police spoke with the victim, who told them that the man had already left on a motorcycle. While officers were still at the home, the man came back. Police say he stopped briefly, then turned his motorcycle around and began to leave again. In the report, officers followed and activated their cruiser’s emergency lights and pulled alongside the motorcycle. The man brought his bike to a stop, though the engine remained running. The SIU stated that the officer hopped out of his cruiser and pushed the man, causing him and the motorcycle to fall to the ground. Officials say the suspect was then handcuffed without further incident. He was later taken to the hospital, where he was diagnosed with a fractured left ankle. After reviewing the evidence, SIU Director Joseph Martino determined there were no reasonable grounds to believe a criminal offense had been committed by the police officer.
