A Barrie, Ont., creek linked to one of the city’s most grisly homicide cases is once again the focus of a police investigation after reports of bones were discovered in the area. On Thursday afternoon, officers and forensics could be seen surrounding Dyments Creek across from the former Victoria Street encampment. In a statement posted to social media, police say human remains were discovered, but investigators are working to determine the nature of the remains. Investigators comb the wooded area just northeast of the intersection of Anne Street South and Tiffin Street. Located just steps away, the Victoria Street encampment, which once housed nearly 100 people, was evacuated and fenced off during a lengthy Barrie police homicide investigation last year. Nearly one year ago to the day, on July 31, police swarmed the encampment while carrying out the investigation that would soon grip the entire city. It remains unclear whether Thursday’s activity is connected to the previous investigation. Details surrounding the latest activity remain scarce. This is a developing story.
