A Saturday afternoon bike ride ended with some charges for riders in Proton Station, Ont. Provincial police say they were tipped off to three riders ‘driving recklessly’ in the area around 3:40 p.m. Grey Bruce OPP claim an officer observed the individuals operating their vehicles in a dangerous manner, including failing to stop at stop signs and travelling at high speeds while passing pedestrians on local trail systems. On that same day, OPP Central Region officers were conducting proactive enforcement in a nearby trail system in Mono. Once the riders crossed over into OPP Central Region jurisdiction, they were stopped by the OPP’s Snow, All-Terrain Vehicle and Vessel Enforcement/Education (SAVE) unit. All three riders now face a number of charges, including operating without insurance, permits and licence plates. Police also charged one rider with failing to properly secure a helmet chin strap.
