The Orillia Public Library got shut down this afternoon because someone used bear spray in the washrooms, according to Orillia Fire Chief. Ferry said fire crews got a call to the library this afternoon for an obnoxious smell. When they arrived, Ferry says they found bear spray in the washrooms. He said the smell was contained to one of the washrooms and that they arranged for a cleaning crew to come and clean the washrooms. Ferry says paramedics examined three people but no one was injured or transported to hospital. The library is expected to reopen Saturday morning. Ferry told CTV News that patrons at the library were saying encouragement to use bear spray or pepper spray has been making the rounds on social media. Ferry is reinforcing to the public to not use bear spray or pepper spray in this way.
