Police are encouraging residents to take care of their vulnerable family members and loved ones after a senior got lost while out of her home. Police responded to a phone call from a resident on Monday morning about an elderly woman who appeared lost. Around 11:30 a.m., a Barrie police officer arrived at Johnson Street and met the 87-year-old woman who had left her home to go grocery shopping and was unable to make her way back. Police say the woman had taken a wrong turn and become disoriented and was unsure about which way she needed to go to get home. Police say the woman was exhausted from her outing in the warm temperatures. After learning her address, the officer realized she lived a short walk from where police had found her. After helping her return to her apartment, the officer then contacted her family. Barrie Police are encouraging residents to add their family members to the vulnerable person registry. The voluntary program allows families and caregivers to provide information that police say could help officers if a loved one becomes lost, goes missing or has difficulty communicating in an emergency.
