An investigation is underway following the discovery of two bodies in central Regina early Tuesday morning. Officers with the Regina Police Service (RPS) were dispatched to the 1100 block of Elphinstone Street at around 4:30 a.m. Police discovered the bodies of two dead people in the area. The scene was secured and personnel from the service’s Major Crimes and Forensic Identification Unit were called in. The death investigation is being operated in conjunction with the Saskatchewan Coroners Service. As of 8:30 a.m. RPS is asking residents to avoid the 1100 block of Elphinstone Street. Several residents told CTV News they heard gunshots in the area. “When I got up this morning — about 4:30 a.m. — to go to [the] bathroom there was some yelling and then there were these really loud bangs,” said Catalina who lives in the neighbourhood. “Then there was more yelling and then we heard sirens.” Currently living in a camper in her friend’s backyard, Catalina said she was “too afraid to leave.” “I’m more worried about children if the kids were involved … and their safety,” she said. Around lunch hour, Catalina headed to the nearby Circle Project non-profit to grab a meal, but it was closed. It was unclear if the temporary closure was related to the investigation. “I was evicted due to slumlords and The Circle Project, they are a wonderful group,” Catalina said. “They give out free lunches, they’re here for the community … it’s really good group of people that work [there],” Catalina said. CTV News reached out to the Circle Project for comment but did not receive a response by publication. Another resident who has lived in the neighbourhood for 20 years spoke with CTV News under the condition of anonymity. She said she is concerned about the safety in the area, stating “something has to be done” to protect the people who live there. With the investigation in its early stage, Regina police said they had no further details to release to the public. “The victims’ names will not be released at this time,” the service said in the update.
