A Springwater park has been closed to the public after reports of multiple ground nests in the area. According to township staff, the nests discovered at Black Creek Park in Snow Valley are believed to belong to sand wasps. “The nests appear as a pencil sized hole in the sand and do not have any further identifiable features, making it difficult to determine how many there are,” officials tell CTV News. The township issued a notice Thursday afternoon advising residents to avoid the sand and stay off playground equipment at Black Creek Park in Snow Valley. “The decision was made with the safety of the park’s users in mind as the nests are difficult to see and could easily be disturbed unknowingly,” says Erin Moriarty with Springwater Township. Township staff say the park located on Mennill Drive will remain closed and cordoned off until it is deemed safe again. The area is scheduled to be sprayed early in the morning on Friday, then township staff will monitor the area. Currently, the township says there is no exact timeline on when the park will reopen.
