Motorists who use Mapleview Drive East can now heave a sigh of relief. The southeast end artery reopened with little fanfare but much anticipation Thursday afternoon six weeks earlier than expect. At this point, concrete centre medians are being installed at the Royal Jubilee Drive/Lally Terrace and Chef Lane intersections. Once installed, access at these intersections will be restricted to right-in/right-out turns, and left turns to and from Mapleview Drive East will no longer be permitted. City of Barrie staff say while Mapleview Drive East is open to traffic, construction will continue as the remaining project is completed. Motorists should continue to expect temporary lane closures, lane restrictions and delays. The construction is part of the Barrie’s broader Mapleview Drive East Transportation Improvements Project, which extends from Yonge Street to Prince William Way.
