From The Road Hammers, The Watchmen, and Bahamas, to Tim Hicks, this year’s Troubadour Festival Summer Concert Series presented by Paul Sadlon Motors produced a star-studded line-up. Setting up the headliners, the Local Opener Showcase provided artists from around the province and region a chance to show local talent, while getting to experience a sold-out venue. Thousands of people made their way to the stage over the course of summer to show their support and the last edition of the Troubadour Summer Concert Series will be no different. Mitch Zorn will open for Tim Hicks on Sept. 10, but not before the local openers rock the crowd. Singer-songwriters Candace and Michael are set to bring their acoustic soundtracks to the stage. Fresh off releasing a new album titled Meant To Be, the duo is ready to showcase their music full of family values. “A lot of the tracks kind of revolve around family and we have kids and so, we made this album in our studio and the kids are very much a part of the lyrics and just togetherness,” the duo said. Indie folk artist Evan Denley will also take the stage with his guitar. While he sings the night away, fans will be treated to the rawness and vulnerability of Denley’s music finding themselves immersed into his world. Familiar faces will also take the stage on Saturday night, as local mainstay Barstool Confession will also sing the night away at Meridian Stage. When an emerging local opener had to bow out due to a scheduling conflict, Barstool Confession answered the call to bring their rock and country-rock classics to the crowd. The concert will be special for the band as they understand the local music scene in Barrie. “I’ve been a musician for a very long time and Barrie is one of those towns where there’s so many amazing bands and so many amazing artists,” said Barstool Confession Drummer Tim Kwiatkowski. “Whether you go to Flying Monkeys and catch a solo act or for Donaleigh’s to catch a band, there’s always something great going on.” All the action begins at 11 a.m. on Dunlop Street with family-friendly activities and a Troubadour Street Stage, which will also feature numerous local artists. The Local Opener Showcase will take place at 5 p.m. on Meridian Stage and the stage will be emceed by CTV’s Sarah Freemark and Pure Country 106’s Stan Musial.
