How much snow has fallen this winter?

Mother Nature has been relentless this winter where it feels like not a day has gone by where we didn’t see snow.

If you’re wondering how much snow has accumulated this winter, several communities across the region have been keeping track, from Nov. 1 to Jan. 28.

According to Canada Weather Stats, Barrie has seen 300 centimetres of snow, which is the equivalent of just over 9.5 feet.

It’s only the beginning of February and the city is already over the amount that it gets in a typical winter. The City of Barrie says 286 centimetres of snow is the average amount for the whole winter.

Oro-Medonte said higher-elevation communities got more snow with the Township having already surpassed the average snowfall for a full season. It says 240 centimetres or almost 8 feet of snow have accumulated at Mount St. Louis Moonstone.

Innisfil has received around 254 centimetres of snow throughout the season, which equals just over eight feet.

The Town of Midland says based on third-party sources, it can estimate around 274 centimetres, an equivalent of almost 9 feet, of snow fallen so far this winter.

Some areas across Penetanguishene have had up to 14.5 feet of snow.

In Tiny, the Township says around 9.5 feet of snow has fallen across the area.

The Lake of Bays has been spared in comparison to some of the other communities in Simcoe County, with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration showing an accumulation of about 90 to 112 centimetres, around three feet.

While Orillia’s resident groundhog Diggie Smalls predicts an early spring, Mother Nature will likely have more snow up her sleeve.
