If you’re heading to Wasaga Beach, you may want to steer clear of Beach Area 2 for now after a swim advisory was issued due to elevated bacteria levels in the water. The town says recent water quality testing found higher-than-normal bacteria levels at the beach located on 6th Street North. While officials note that swim advisories are precautionary and happen from time to time, visitors are still encouraged to be cautious. Those who choose to swim during the advisory are asked to avoid putting their heads underwater or swallowing lake water. The town says beachgoers should also wash their hands after playing in the sand or water, particularly before eating. The advisory is set to remain in effect until follow-up testing confirms bacteria levels have returned to normal. Visitors still looking to enjoy a day at Wasaga Beach have plenty of options. There are currently no swim advisories in effect for the town’s seven other beach areas.
