G2 driver stopped for stunt driving faces more than just speeding charge

A young G2 driver is facing several charges after police a routine traffic stop for speeding escalated after officers discovered additional concerns in the car.

According to provincial police, the 19-year-old was pulled over on Broadway over the weekend after an officer clocked his vehicle travelling over 100 kilometres per hour - well beyond the posted speed limit of 60 km/h.

The driver was charged with stunt driving for the offence, which carries an immediate 30-day licence suspension and a 14-day vehicle impoundment at the registered owner’s expense.

But police say it only got worse from there. The officer reportedly noticed the G2 driver also had cannabis within reach inside the vehicle.

Provincial rules require any cannabis in a vehicle to be sealed and out of access to the driver.

OPP didn’t provide further details regarding the traffic stop, including whether any passengers were in the vehicle, but the service did stress the importance of respecting speed limits.

“Please slow down. Don’t put lives at risk,” OPP stated.
