Driver clocked at 112 km/h in posted 60 km/h zone in slick winter conditions

Ontario Provincial Police are reminding drivers to slow down after stopping a young motorist for reportedly speeding during dangerous winter conditions in Tiny Township.

Police say roads were slick and visibility was poor when officers from the Southern Georgian Bay detachment clocked the driver travelling 112 kilometres an hour in a posted 60 km/h zone.

Given the treacherous weather, officers say the situation could have easily resulted in a tragedy. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

The young driver was charged with stunt driving under Ontario’s Highway Traffic Act. As a result, the vehicle was impounded, and the accused is facing a hefty fine along with additional penalties associated with the charge.

“Dangerous speeds on winter roads put everyone at risk. Please slow down and drive to the conditions,” concluded police in a social media post.
