Dog attacks child and others in southwest Barrie neighbourhood

Barrie police say they are on the lookout for a dog that bit a child in southwest Barrie on Monday morning.

Police describe the animal a very large “bully-type dog” with light brown fur. Police say the animal is bully breed dog with a mastiff head and a red leash around its neck.

According to police, the first call for help came in around 8:45 a.m from the Essa Road and Loggers Run area. The dog was last spotted in the Tiffin Street and Ferndale Area around 12:30.

According to police, the dog a attacked a child and several others in the area.

Residents who spot the dog are asked not to approach the animal and are encouraged to contact police instead.

Police say the child was hospitalized with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

Barrie police have not yet confirmed how many total residents have been injured.

Ferndale Woods Elementary School was under a police-initiated hold and secure during the day, which has since been lifted.
