Barrie police say the search continues for a dog that attacked a child in southwest Barrie. Police describe the animal a very large “bully-type dog” with light brown fur, a mastiff head and a red leash around its neck. On Tuesday, police announced the dog remains on the loose, despite hours of searching. Barrie police say the dog was last seen around 12:30 p.m. on Monday. According to police, the first call for help came in around 8:45 a.m. on Monday from the Essa Road and Loggers Run area. The dog was later tracked to the area of Patterson Road and Florence Park, before sightings were reported around Dove Crescent. According to police, the dog a attacked a child and other people in the area Monday morning. Residents who spot the dog are asked not to approach the animal and are encouraged to contact police instead. Similarly, residents who have been bitten by the dog are urged to contact police as well. Police say the 11-year-old child was riding a scooter when he was attacked by the animal. The boy was hospitalized with serious but non-life threatening injuries. Barrie police have not yet confirmed how many total residents have been injured. Police say they are attempting to contact the dog’s owners who will be investigated and charged as appropriate. Police have also notified the the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit. We will update this article as more information becomes available.
