Charges have been laid after a large quantity of contraband tobacco was discovered during an inspection at the weigh station on Highway 400. The Ministry of Transportation contacted the OPP on Wednesday morning to assist in the investigation of a transport truck at the inspection station in King Township. As a result of the inspection, the OPP say contraband cigarettes were found inside the tractor trailer. Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said Friday over 30 boxes containing more than 300,000 contraband cigarettes were discovered inside the vehicle. The driver, a 52-year-old Thunder Bay man, and the passenger, a 32-year-old Manitoba man, were arrested and charged with trafficking contraband tobacco. Both will appear in court at a future date.
