Collingwood man dies after lighting himself on fire in Midland

A 31-year-old Collingwood man who lit himself on fire at a Midland gas station on Thursday afternoon has died from his injuries.

Police and the local fire department were called to the Ultramar station on Yonge Street just before 1 p.m.

Midland Police say a man covered himself in gasoline and set himself on fire.

The man then fled the scene and was located a short distance away.

He was taken to Georgian Bay General Hospital in Midland, and was then air lifted to a Toronto hospital.

Police say the man died from his injuries overnight in hospital.

Midland Police say they are now investigating how and why the man was in Midland prior to the incident.
